What component parts constitute the title of a firearm?

On a licence what is needed to be classed as a rifle for example?

Barrel, breech and bolt?

Stocks and magazines can be sold openly on the internet, so just what
does make a rifle? At what point does an empty tube become classed as
a barrel?

Or is a nail in a block of wood classed as a bolt? I always remember my dad
telling me about when he was in Kenya and the Mau Mau used conduit and nails
in wood to fire shotgun cartridges in home made shotguns.

Putting it in basic terms, Restricted Licensed parts are pressure baring component parts that require proofing, so bolts, carriers, barrels receivers etc.

Then there are gray area parts like firing pins, not proofed, but not a good idea to have them laying about the house either!

A barrel only becomes restricted when a chamber has been cut, prior to that, it's simply a rifled pipe!! (unless that rule has now been changed)??

I've just emailed my Dad (in lanzarote for month or so) to ask if he wants me to hand in a shotgun he has had hanging on the wall for the past 35+ years.
Apparently , you dont "hand it in" , but call 101 and arrange for someone to collect it.

This amnesty lark must be a national thing because three Welsh police forces have just announced the same.
In reality its always been no questions aked if you surrender anything locally provided of course that the firearm hasn't been used in a crime.
