What are the reasons. ? You are proving my point there is more to crime rates in different countries than the number of firearms owned by civilians. The original article was trying to put the UK/s high crime rate down to firearms bans which is rubbish.

That is true, that link is wrong. However, looking at violent crime, burglary etc. we have high rates of crime; would we still if teenage drug addict burglar genuinely thought there was a high risk of a bullet to the face, when carrying out his burglary? Or muggings? Etc etc.


I am struggling with that article, but I think guns for self defence is a sensible plan!

In most states in the US, individually, more guns equals less crime.

I don't suppose the average drug addict burglar - teenage or otherwise - would even think that far ahead. All they are worried about is finding enough funds for their next fix, but I do understand your point!

From a South African perspective, which possibly has the highest murder rate in the world, gun ownership by the public doesn't seem to deter criminals. A lot of murders are committerd by burglars, and a lot of their victims were probably gun owners who either didn't or couldn't use their weapons in self defence.

The following article is from one of the 'Gun Owners of South Africa' fact sheets. One statement stands out very clearly:
