I saw a picture of one on another forum so someone has certainly had one done. The more I think about it though, the less likely it is I'd go down that road. Both the Taurus and the 1911 are much more practical for the odd competition and will fulfil my primary usage which will be 25yd indoor shooting.

I've looked at the Westlake engineering site before and if I went for a buckmark it'd be one of his. The thing is if I go for .22 then how can I not have a 1911? So pretty... :)

Chris & I are getting a pair of the 1911's. My FAC just came back with it on so soon off to collect. Chris will be competing with his but yet to confirm, personally, the accuracy reports. Me? mine's for fun as no-one in their right mind will take me seriously with a metallic pink accessoried one!!

I have an Uberti Buntline in .45 Colt. I got my Buntline second hand in a trade deal, but Kranks are doing them for around the 500 mark. A local gunsmith welded a rod on the backstrap, chopped the barrel to 12.5", recrowned it and re-fitted the fore sight. All for 80 quid!

It's a great alternative to the Taurus.

Heather, I'd be interested to hear what you think of the 1911 once you've had a good play with it. If I get one I probably won't go for the same colour as you. :-)

SimG, I didn't realise I could get the chop done so cheaply. Isn't it meant to be reproofed after though? Maybe you only have to do that if you want to sell it?

Why would you need to reproof it? The barel hasn't been weakened only reduced in length.

Just a technical point of note. If a gunsmith is reducing the length of a LBR it is necessary for him to weld on the extra rod before shortening the barrel otherwise at some point the gun would be under 60cm in length and thus a section 5.

I just wondered if a change in the barrel implied a need for reproofing. I've long since stopped trying to apply logic to our gun laws.

Another guy in the club also has one which sat in his cabinet for ages as really, the 18 inch barrel is unuseable, he had the same job done by another gunsmith and again, he paid around the same money.

As far as proofing is concerned, I believe that if I was to pass the Uberti on, then that is when it would need to be re-proofed.
