You have got to be joking - 440 rounds must weigh something like ten kilos - bear in mind the weight, the fact that it's explosive, and have to be shipped by sea, it's going to cost you a shed-load of dosh

Yes, you're missing a lot, viz ... ... ...

1. Cost of shipping
2. Dangerous goods
3. Licensing requirements
4. Involvement of an RFD and associated costs
5. Import duty/VAT - remember duty/VAT are charged on the cost of the goods PLUS shipping
6. UK transport costs (only TNT can ship and charge an arm and a leg

If (and it's a big if) you can pull this off, the 7.62x54R is going to cost you a lot more than you calculated.

Either buy from an existing importer OR handload. Best of all follow Mag41UK's advice.

Hmmm, we like cheap cheap 7.62x54R for our Noise Magnets and, as aforestated, a good wash through with hot water followed by a normal clean (Forest Bore Foam is our preference) prevents the corrosion problem. MilSurp is easily capable of minute of Farmer Giles and so plenty good enough for us.

Thats not bad, I pay £31 a hundred for Russian Novosibirsk produced ammo.
Technically Tula branded ammo is marketed as commercial hunting ammo and does differ from true milsurp as I believe Tula isn't steel-cored.

The price I was quoted by the seller/exporter from the Czech Rep back in December, was € 500 = £ 400 for a crate of 50K rounds, which works out £ 8 /1,000 rounds.

Good old Sergei was taking care with the export papers on his side - No idea of the costs for them in the UK.

Sergei doesn't do "Dangerous goods" - as long as it doesn't kill 5,000 Slavic peasants as it passes, it ain't dangerous.

But it's dangerous in the UK.

Again, not having ever done the transaction first hand, it is a bit of an empirical discussion & I can not be, for sure, certain but I guess there are not that many accredited transporters. I would therefore assume Sergei probably uses the same transporter that brings all Mil-Surp ammo sourced from central Europe to the UK ?? That is what he quoted me for.

Just in case you are wondering, Sergei is not off-loading stuff fallen of a lorry, he is a bona-fide professional & licenced gun trader, shop owner, VAT registred etc.. etc ...

This all sounds very interesting and makes me all the more interested in following up the possiblitiy of importing.

I have thought about adding class 1 to my ADR licence, but dont fancy the cost of driving to the ukraine and back! :-)
Could be an interesting club organised holiday with plenty of tense moments at boarders. :)


260/1000 sounds nice but not nice enough to put me off making my own enquiries.

Having imported restricted goods into the uk before I know that there can be alot of red tape to cut through.

Now reloading is definately a viable alternative as the chance to make rounds to my own and my rifles preferences is very appealing.

Oh well, my break is up, I'd better go deliver the 800kg of ammonium nitrate I have on the back of my lorry. It not nice when you have 200kg of nitric acid and 400litres of diesel on the back too.

If you want fairly cheap non corrosive ammo then Barnaul make 7.62x54R, HPS have it in stock for £44 per 100.

A member of a US forum recommends at the end of a good Mil-Surp ammo session with a bolt action rifle, of shooting a couple of non-corrosive round as a good way to clear those nasty salts residues ?
