Pushing it out to just over 1300 yards at times. Now issued with the .338 but the L96 is still often used for closer ranges instead like this incident. Just the usual standard RG 155 Grain ammo, However RUAG took over the contract and I believe the Rounds were of better quality and increased Accuracy. I found the RG Ammo to not be as Consistant.

1300 is one hell of a shot with an L96, what sort of success rate would you expect first shot at 1300?

I would hazard a guess that they've got their info wrong and it's the new L115 .338 Lapua.

First round hit of course :D on a serious note you know your weapon inside and out and know its limit and potential. It would be very hard to push it much further than that accuratley.

There are confirmed sniper kills at 1400 in Northern Ireland in the 70's with L42s and fixed x6 power Pecars......

It is good to know the old L96's were not flogged off to some dodgy Italian distributor when the L115A1 was released, I am sure they have a lot of life left in them yet :D

Just before I left they were issuing the L96 to the Rifle Companies sharpshooters. A few L96's were kept by the Platoon. However the L129A1 Sharpshooter Rifle was announced just after I left, so I believe the Sharpshooters and top shots in the companies were being issued this. (Depending on how much the MOD was willing to spend). Like you said im sure the L96 will still be around for a good few years yet.
