I bought a 25Kg sack of reptile walnut sand from eBay for about £30.00. What arrived was an unbranded sack, but it did have the grading size marked on it. I'm away so I can't look at the sack right now, but 20/40 grit size are commonly recommended for this application. The vendor is currently out of stock of the 25Kg sacks, but has 5 Kg available. Whether they are the same grading is another matter.

I'm not sure what it's made from, but the Frankford Arsenal media is much finer than the (Lyman?) walnut-shell stuff I used before. It works fine for me and doesn't get stuck in flash-holes.

what about leaving the tumbler on till it grinds itself smaller ..... or drill out your flash holes

Drilling out flash holes is going to upset the internal ballistics and leaving the tumbler to run until the media has been ground down would take forever. A pepper mill would probably be quicker!
Has anyone experimented with bead blasting media, you used to be able to buy it in unbroken form so the balls were totally spherical and without sharp edges.

The finer media is available from shooting suppliers, runs like water and cleans the best of all the dry tumbling media I have used.

This is how I clean my cases with Stainless steel media - excellent results and quicker than dry media tumbling but a bit more faffing about and higher set-up costs, and of course you will need to dry your cases before reloading.
