ZZR1100 no you can't just renew for a period of four years, what you will need to do is renew for the full period and then make it coterminous when you renew your FAC in December 2018.

Question 21 on Form 201 doesn't support that view Chapuis.

You mean this one
21. Would you like your shotgun certificate to expire at the same time as your firearm certificate?
Yes No
In what way doesn't it fit in with what I have said?

My reading of that question is;
Would you like your shotgun certificate to expire at the same time as your firearm certificate?
Yes No
If yes, give details of your current firearm certificate if applicable.
"My FAC no. 123456 expires on Fake date 2017"
Would that not imply the SGC I get in return (whether grant or renewal) would expire on "Fake date 2017", rather than todays date + 5 years?
I hate discussions like this because in five minutes it'll hit me that I'm being an idiot

Ah yes you've caught me out on the new form.

So you're now asking them only to renew for less than the normal duration of a SGC.

You could do. As I said above I'm going for the full five years now and reconsidering the situation in just under 3 years when my FAC expires - if the fees are still a tenner extra for coterm then I'd probably renew SGC early (if you can, I'm not sure TBH. I guess a way around it would be surrender SGC then grant if it came to it/if the savings were big enough to bother with).

was told that when sgc expires in july this year it can be renewed for 4 years so it can be coterminous with fac ..
not sure if its worth the bother to be honest !
Always worth it to save the £40 (or so) each time.
However it shows how bad their systems are, just had letters through for my renewals due 29 June and wanting the applications by end April. Rather than one letter they send two - postage 60p (or more) on each. They sent the original out separately too, again at a cost. So just the two costs take a large chunk of what I pay for the second certificate.

I prefer to have mine separate so that i can do SOME type of shooting while they're dragging their feet/cocking up the other certificate

Why? Do you leave your renewal until the day it is due and then surrender your guns?
No reason not to carry on shooting whilst the renewal is in progress, you still have your certificates and they are valid if you apply in time.

Not if it is outside of your home county.
