It was Deputy Chief Constable Douglas McMurdo of Central Scotland Police who overruled Detective Sergeant Paul Hughes of the same force. See http://www.heraldscotland.com/sport/spl ... m-1.451692

McMurdo resigned weeks after the shootings. I can't find any trace of him since.

Gaz. Thanks for the link and made interesting reading! I heard that McMurdo was promoted for his part in the Dunblane story (tongue in cheek!). I would love to state what I also heard about his part in this, but would not want to bring this forum into any libelous argument just in case Big Brother is listening/reading!!!! Finally, is is true that there is a Government notice on the Dunblane events banning publication/discussion of the story for 100 years or so to save any embarassment to key figures?

How does a 'Freedom of Information' request stack up against a 25 / 30 / 100 year ruling ?

You can request, and they can deny, however I have had friends gain access to restricted documents from War Office files before they were released. It does take some arguing though.

Good article :good:

" A detective sergeant recommended that Hamilton’s renewal be refused. Indeed, Hamilton’s pistol club secretary told the police the same thing. Both were overruled."

This is the most important point in the argument about the ban...

...well done Gaz for making the point so simply.
