Yeah twitter takes some getting used to, just keep mucking about with it, worsecase senario is you bombard your MP with the same question!

A useful tool for us to get our message out there though

It shouldn't be an issue in this part of the UK , as most MP/S carry firearms for personal protection. Even ones that have served time for terrorists offences. :roll:

My MP's ignored me looking at it... she's been on twitter since I posted asking the question... she's replied to others but ignored my post....

We'll give her some time to reply and then ask again...

Just like a politician to skirt around what interests their constituents...

I emailed my local MP (Julian Brazier Canterbury and Whitstable), having read up on him awhile ago he was a real mixed bag as to what I did and did not agree with him on regarding other issues. Despite this when I posted my question regarding the ban I had high hopes, he's ex-TA and 21SAS.

This is the response I got.

'Thank you for your email about the ban on handguns. I share your concern on this - I have enjoyed using a shotgun, as well as my rifle in the TA and I found the previous Government's approach to guns rather hysterical. That said, the police have made it clear they do not want the current ban lifted, as they believe this would encourage gun culture in the UK. I have written to the Home Office Minister responsible for firearms, Norman Baker, asking what the Government's position is on this and I will let you know as soon as I receive a response.

Ultimately the shooting community need to understand that if most MPs supported lifting the ban, it very well could be. This is a good thread, in the right direction regarding getting our stupid laws changed. dave_303 please post back with your MP's response regarding the governments position. likely to be no 'thats a stupid UKIP policy', but we are in with a chance. I think people ought to remember that pre-cumbria shootings, the government were very likely to repeal the .22 pistol ban. We are closer than we think.
One thing i read on an article about Nigel Farage wanting the ban lifted, i cant remember what newspaper it was, was that a conservative MP said 'there is no support for getting the ban lifted, even in rural areas '. I think if that MP was reminded of all of the petitions signed, etc, they wouldnt be saying things like that.
