Are firing pins proof marked and if you replace a firing pin do have to have the gun reproofed? Thought not.

Like has been said a grey area, a Ginger gunplmber I know believes they are considered pressure bearing by the authorities and as such you should have good reason for aquiring one, such good reason would be legally owning the particular firearm the firing pin was for and its not unreasonable to hold spares if they are prone to breaking.

What would not be good reason would be to have firing pins for Section 5 firearms that you were not leagally authorised to possess.

There's certainly a difference between me, say, having a spare firing pin from my old Glock in my box of gun spares in the loft and someone selling several Glock firing pins to persons unknown from an airgun shop.

I suspect lack of evidence and the prospect of the CPS losing the case was behind the expert not turning up and the case being dismissed, but I'd say there's still more to this story than meets the eye.

Now what happened to that guy arrested for '3D printing gun parts' which were actually printer parts? The only thing they had on him was some 'homemade gunpowder'. Has that one been quietly dropped as well?

With my crime reporting hat on, "case dropped because witness suddenly refused to co-operate with prosecution" tends to actually mean "a CPS grownup looked at our case a few days before it was due in court and told us not to be so bloody stupid".

Firing pins are restricted in NI.

As are magazines.

So looking forward to coming home...

I always understood firing pins to be pressure bearing and as such a controlled part.
As per Section 5 parts, you've got to be complete moron, to be caught with Sec5 parts in your possession.
Even magazines could land you in a whole load of trouble.
OK, you might be able to justify a mag if you've got a collection of deacts, and you just want to improve your collection or the such like.

The police refused to pay out on spare firing pins and extractors when a friend tried to put these parts in for his Browning hi-power at the time of the great gun steal. They returned the parts to him so obviously they didn't think that they were pressure bearing parts or licensable at that time.

I'm pretty sure, that a lot of police officers don't know which part is pressure bearing and which is not.

You can be pretty much guaranteed, that if you walked into the average police station, and handed a firing pin in, they'd not know what it is and just dismiss it as a funny looking nail. That is not to say, all police officers are ignorant when it comes to firearms, some will recognise the part, but most won't.
