Alpha 1 try looking in the guidance to police document instead.
10.51 A variation is always necessary if a certificate holder wishes to change one of the firearms, even if they wish to purchase one identical to the one they are selling (Wilson v Coombe, Queen’s Bench Divisional Court, July 1988). “One for one” variation refers to firearms that are authorised to be acquired at the same time as one is being disposed of. For practical purposes this is normally taken to be within seven days. The use of authorities which can be kept open indefinitely should be discouraged.

Mine never used to bother about the time limit. They do now! Cost me the £26 to "vary" the rifles sold. Guess it's the penny pinching....

Guess I will just have to stump up £26 then. I am asking for a .222 a .22 bench rest jobby that leaves two others not sure what calibers to go for in these two. I have just about every thing that I actually want to shoot. I don't want to get into having guns just sitting in the cabinets gathering dust. Been there done that. Some thing interesting to re load for would be fun. Don't want any exotic expensive long range stuff either no were to shoot them in my neck of the woods.

How about an old lever gun in any of a multitude of "old timer" calibers that need cast bullets, careful reloading due to the nuances of the case and can provide both 25 yard accurate plinking out to a couple of hundred yards if you'd like to...?
Likewise and old rook/rabbit rifle?

Anything in 32-20 would be worth getting.
Me I like single shots but the 32-20 in rifle or pistol is a fine cartridge.

If you're swapping one of your firearms to acquire for another type/calibre, then this would be a free one-for-one variation
Does the FAC have to be sent to the police in England or can the variation be done at the gun shop.

It has to be sent to the Police.
Just checking they changed the law here a while back the dealer does the variation at the shop so you can do a free one-for-one variation of the same calibre and take it home with you. The dealer sorts the paper work out with the police.
