Buy a T4 cheap as chips and will punch the middles out of the target all day if you get a good one. Reloading .308 for it is easy and bought ammo is readily available.
Last one I had I paid £250 for it.

I saw a couple of very nice Swedish Mausers at the Trafalgar -6.5 x 55, M/96's I think.

G98, K98, Mosin PU, Tikka T3

The above sounds like you already shoot a very nice selection indeed and the road of a K31 or a 303 is a of course a very logical next step with you want to stick with the crowd ...

Now if you reload and if you want a simple, no non-sense, rugged/bomb proof & battle-proven rifle, accurate with nice peeping sight, compact & "agressive" rifle with a fast action , maybe you should concider a MAS36 .Probably one of the best bolt action ever made ..

A couple of years ago i got a great deal on a Ishapore 2A1 rifle from a reenactor mate of mine. this is a Indian SMLE built in 7.62 NATO. Mine is 1966 dated and had been tricked out into looking more like a WW1 issue SMLE. The barrel was pretty good as only blank had been put through it. Only used it out to 200 yards but it seems ok, They don't come up too often but they usually are quite cheap i think mine was the best £200 i have spent for a long time.
MAS 36's are fine well built rifles based on the Mauser system and are normally found in a great condition, to me the bolt handle is a bit wierd. A bit of MAS 36 Humour....

As already said, everyone should have an Enfield (at least one) - The Long Lee, SMLE and No.4 are all great rifles.

I saw some very good shooting this weekend with P14s - They're almost equal to Enfields, but being American, not quite razz

For accuracy, I don't think you can beat a Swedish Mauser - With a scout-scope on my M96 will compete with modern .308 scoped rifles at 200 yards - The only down side is that they're not the best for snap and rapid shooting, as the bolt on the infantry version is a bit awkward for it and you can't use a strip-clip on the sniper version (someone scored a 50.10 with an M41 at this years Trafalgar)

However, none of these match your request for an interesting .308 - If you're not bothered about it being post-war, then some older/transitional TR rifles shoot very well...an old Swing can be revitalized into a good F/TR rifle that'll shoot great at 600 yards.

My mk. 5 Swing with scope rail and F-Class bipod is pretty good at 1000 yds. Bolt is a bit heavy, but no complaints otherwise.

By 308 do you mean a rifle shooting a 308 bullet or a rifle chambered for 308 Winchester/NATO?

Sorry to thread high-jack but have you ever used a MAS? They are one of the finest surplus rifles I have ever used! Speedy of use is similar to the Enfield, the sights are great for snap shooting. The round is low on recoil, the gun isn't too heavy and is nice and compact. As such I never intend on selling mine.
