as already stated above, you will need a slot for "6.5x284 barrel only"

thats the way D&C deal with it, I have numerous like that for 10-22 barrels, different weights and lengths I have played with.

Grampian didn't see it that way either. A barrel or a mod takes up a slot , my mod slot will be filled by a mod which is then added to my total .A spare barrel ( entered as such ) takes up another slot .
Perhaps now it's POLICE SCOTLAND things may be different ?

Waterford, I think you may be missing the point. "Slots" on your FAC are not interchangeable. The item being acquired has to match, by type and calibre, the authority to acquire ("slot") on the FAC. "Type" can include all the licensable components as well as the complete rifle, smoothbore gun, muzzle-loading pistol or whatever.

"Totals" being talked about above are to do with other aspects of the guidance in which numbers of firearms are mentioned. Nobody is suggesting that you can acquire licensable components without the appropriate authority, or that an authority can be used to acquire multiple examples of the same type of item.

So what happens if I want to fit the barrel do I need to do a variation again to gain a .308 spare?

Or , the next time I want to build myself another rifle in say 6.5 mm ,I apply for and get authority for a 6.5 rifle , I acquire the receiver as --- what ? A receiver has no caliber , that is decided by the barrel .I make a barrel from a barrel blank ,thread the tenon to fit the receiver and chamber it according to the cartridge case type .Who enters what on my FAC ?

Can someone clarify, if a moderator or spare barrel is not a 'Firearm' does the variation fee of £26 apply if you want to increase the number held?
