Having lost firearms through both the '88 and '97 bans, I would desparately like to see them repealed but unfortunately it'll never happen.
No number of petitions or representations to any ruling Government would lead to a repeal as it would be too much of a vote loser once the opposition and media got their teeth into it. Also, you've got the prospect of New/Old/Re-invented Labour lurking in the winds ready to ban them again as soon as they get back into poower.
Sounds negative I know but we all know that sadly it's true.
