We don't pay for other parts of the policing system and as users we never wanted most of the restrictions anyway, it the general public that wanted them through their elected government therefore they should pay for it through the taxation system same as they do for other policing measures for the public safety.

So I'm for doing away with fees altogether not increasing them.

Who the hell are acpo anyway and why are they given such weight and credence to their self interested pronouncements.

As far as I can see they are at best a small trade union or a vested interest, self serving, jobs for the boys/girls mens/womens club.

we don't speak up for ourselves so whats the point talking about it.

maybe if go on the offensive and demand pistols back, with enough pushing they may compromise for say .22 pistols.

its time we stop laying down and waiting for them to take something else away.

Unfortunately, our "best" chance of even a partial repeal of the ban, .22 rimfire, was lost when the Conservatives didn't win an overall majority in the run up to the Olympics.

Interesting idea, but that wouldn't do me. I am by nature a tinkerer, fetler, collector of many thinks mechanical, such as automatic watches, motorcycles, shaving gear, so I enjoy stripping, cleaning and learning about my hobbies

I would agree if I had to store my handguns at a club or police station I would give them up.

What ever happened to that thread a few months ago where repeal of the handgun ban was the most voted for legislative change that we all signed up for. Anything ever get done / talked about after that ?

The telegraph poll? As far as I'm aware it went no were.

It was kind of a fixed vote anyway as a fair amount of those 20k votes were sympathetic Americans, after somebody posted the link on AR15.com

While lots of people who still remember Dunblane are alive it'll never happen, no matter the hoops involved. And even if it did, as Dromia said it would become the new licensing system for all firearms.

How many of you have written to your MP instead of whining here?

The Badger has hit the nail on the head, there needs to be continuous, concentrated campaigns to bring them back. Why not now? here are more FAC holders in the country than pre-88 and more RFDs than ever before.

I remember when I first started shooting their was a petition either being run or supported by Shooting Sports magazine. It gained a lot of strength, hell I went around for weeks forms and got over 100 signatures.

If we don't fight, we wont win.

I've written, I've marched, I've voted, I've visited MP's clinics, most recently in Scotland on the airgun issue but we are seen as lone and loony voices.

What the shooting community lacks is strong unified leadership with a meaningful and creditable voice that sets the shooting agenda pro actively instead of just sitting back contributing to whatever meaningless consultation the government comes up with next or twiddling thumbs 'till the next tragedy comes along to galvanise them into torpid action.

The vested self interest of our "national" bodies is a shameful disgrace that perpetrates their own pathetic existences on the plight of gun ownership and shooting in the UK. These turkeys will never give up their perceived positions of "power", their self importance and their salaries for the good and furtherance of shooting in the UK by forming a unified national voice that promotes gun ownership and leads a proactive agenda on the issue, until that happens we will all continue to be victims. All our energy, ideas and enthusiasm will be dissipated, diluted and demeaned by the fragmented representation of our "national" shooting (notice not gun ownership) organisations.
