You still didn't iron that sheet Dromia, Christel will be mad!

Lovely pics, superb close ups. Did you use a compact camera?

I do actually think that Dromia and I agreed it was called texture.

Bet you he's got his macro on, Mike357. :)

Fancying one of these something rotten, now he's just dropped the price by £250...or shall I keep it for the next power house road burner? :P

Very nice Rob, I would love either the Sigma or Canon L Series 20-200, but rifles come first :D

When Barcelona were training at St Andrews a few years ago I hired a 300 or 400mm L Series lens and got some wicked pictures. It is an amazing piece of kit.

Mike357 wrote:Well the horrible scope is off and original sight is back on. Pity about the holes in the receiver. But at least it appears original as it is etched "No5 Mo1 ROF (F)" It also shows 10/46. Does this mean it was manufactured in Oct 1946?
Good job on rescuing this lovely peice. The holes as said before can be plugged, is the barrel fluted at the throat end ?

Haven't had the woodwork off to check but al signs so far indicate that it is genuine. How do I go about getting the holes plugged? Would a gunsmith do that? I have to be careful as the etching (No5Mk1) was drilled through :o

A Gunsmith can plug the holes mate, make sure you take it to someone you can trust,as the etching is a good peice of history regarding no 5's . May be better to leave it if you can live with it ?

After the awful performance at 100 yds where I couldn't get 10 shots on the target, I gave the barrel a real good clean. Removed as much copper as I could and then cleaned it.

Shot it again today at 200 and 300yds and what a difference! Used the last of the 174gr mil surp(50 years old) and was getting them in the black at least :D

Cant wait until I can get some load development done over the summer. I've gone from getting rid of it if it didn't shoot any better to know wanting a super accurate No4 next year. Service Rifle comp next month and another comp in Aberdeen in the summer

Saw a gorgeous No4 today, unissued Canadian stock with blueing as good as the day it came out the factory with an Armalon mount and a Simmons Whitetail. Cracking.

Still looking for an original No5 stock!

Shot the Mauser below at 400 yds and couldn't hit diddly squat
