MSA Soderins, they are expensive but worth the investment, MiLisCer made a comment to me which has stuck ..... you only have one pair of ears !!!!

These babies are great not only for blocking out noise but enhancing what you hear around you.

I have the MSA Sordin Supreme's which are good ear defenders, although one annoying issue is the battery cover has an extra "mushroom" looking piece of metal on the end ,which prevents the ear defenders from collapsing in on themselves for storage without wearing out the rubber shroud or distorting the frame. Unless I'm missing something it's a really silly oversight IMO. I presume it's so you can tether it to the main unit, but they forgot to provide the tether! A jewellers saw fixed mine!

One question about electronic ear defenders - Do they simply amplify non damaging noise or do they actually cancel out the harmful audible range? i.e. Are they any better at shielding your ears from loud gun fire, than non electronic ear defenders or are they just good at allowing ambient sounds around you? Does that make sense?

They're 'noise-cancelling' which means (when turned on), they allow non-harmful sound through (via mic) but cancel sound above a harmful level. 80dB+ off the top of my head, might be higher?

Mine don't fold properly either but no biggie... mine 'bind' before they hit the 'mushroom' though.

You are right about the the Sordin's not folding up very well, did the modification solve this problem?

OK thanks, I was just curious. They compress (not cap) harmful noise to 82dB.

I hadn't noticed it before, but as SevenSixTwo mentioned above they do bind before the "mushroom." So they're not perfect, but IMO they're now 99.7%. I'd recommend it, it was irritating me and now I'm perfectly happy with them.
