DM, I use bore foam as a final action to remove copper, it always seems to get what is left.

Personally, I don't use Wipe-out.

It does work but you need to leave it in the barrel for about 8 hours. Tested some once for the magazine.

Much prefer Sweets or ProShot copper remover. Both are very good and you leave it in for abot 10-15 mins and repeat until patches come out clean.

Interestingly, we took a borescope to the Training Weekend - lots of shooters don't get the copper out of their bore!

I am mindful of Ovenpaas previous comments re different products removing different levels and how one product can clean a barrel but should you then use a second, that the patch will come out with copper on.

Having a can of bore foam (Forrest's) I have just left the barrel for best part of 45 minutes. The instructions say 15 Min's.
The first patch through came out clean, so I cut a patch as large as I dare and that also came out squeaky clean.

I have to surmise that for me the barrel is clean, I am sure a bore scope may say different, but this is as clean as I will be running it.

I wonder if the 5R rifling has anything to do with how easy it is to keep it clean?

I leave my bore foam in for 45 minutes as well and I have a feeling Border or one of the others say shoot one, foam for 24 hours, shoot one etc. Great if you have a range in your back garden but it sounds excessive to me.

I have a theory about copper cleaners.... I alternate them, so swab and wait a few then clean, repeat and clean, repeat and clean and when it looks clean I do the same with a different cleaner. Finally Bore foam to see if I missed anything. I use a brush in the chamber as well to remove the carbon build up around the neck and then use a small bottle brush to agitate the bore foam.

Finally I have a squint with an endoscope which is a bit of a PITA as mine has a head that you can swivel around, I keep meaning to see if I can nail a camera to the end and use a laptop to view it :)

When you run in a new barrel, the only bit you are running in is the leade. Match quality barrels are lapped and really need no running in.

The chamber reamer cuts a ramp on the lands. The finish - under a borescope - looks like the edge of a file.

It also works like the edge of a file - on the first few bullets up the barrel - this is where the copper comes from. Subsequent shots vaporise the copper filings and spread it down the bore. Often, the biggest deposits are a few inches back from the muzzle.

After about 40 shots, the lands will be fairly smooth with just a few fine lines. After about 80 rounds they will be completely smooth.

Please try some Sweets or ProShot copper remover. Swab the bore with a loose-fitting patch and leave it for 15 mins, then push out the residue with a tight patch. If there is any blue, repeat. If not, clean with your usual bore cleaner.

I have read a number of "how to" articles on shooting in barrels, but I don't remember anyone giving that explanation. To be honest, if you had asked me on Sunday why I was doing it I would have given a pretty blank answer along the lines of "because you do".
I thought it was to do with hardening the new steel.

I will try and get some of the Sweets or ProShot copper remover, but despite living next to Bisley, there are no decent shops within easy travelling distance,

Last time I tried to buy Sweets from Fultons they didn't have it, so I had to buy (expensive) Hoppe's Copper Terminator. After a good soak in old recipe Hoppe's the 'Copper Terminator' doesn't seem to find any more copper to remove.
