There is a company called Ryton Arms that specialise in deactivated weapons and ship all over the country. I just looked at their terms and they mention they use Target 24 hour service. Re ParcelForce, they don't carry firearms of any description - even toy ones.

I'll take a shufty at Ryton.

I have firearms delivered to me regularly by Parcelforce, RFD's use them all the time.

Anyway you aren't wanting a firearm transported.

I use TNT through a trade account, the only restriction being no enhanced liability insurance, if you were near me I would have it sent for you around the £20 mark so long as it is one person liftable and carriable, no insurance over the basic which I cannot recall the amount at present

Royal Mail

Royal Mail, after several one-to-one meetings with the GTA, have announced:

'Royal Mail has decided that it will continue to carry low powered airguns, their components and accessories, imitation firearms, antique firearms and deactivated firearms. From 14th January onwards Royal Mail will also allow the carriage of airgun and airsoft pellets in the post. A revised consultation may take place in 2013 on the carriage of shotguns, rifles and their component parts."

In December 2012 Royal Mail informed BASC that low powered airguns, their components and accessories, imitation, antique and deactivated firearms would continue to be carried in the post. Royal Mail also confirmed that from 14th January 2013 it would allow the carriage of airgun and airsoft pellets in the post.

This was good news for airgunners and the trade as it followed a Royal Mail consultation on proposals to ban the transportation of all guns and their component parts. That consultation sparked a massive response from shooters and the trade who objected to the proposals.

Hmm, I've now had two post offices refusing to carry it.

I need to declare what's in it because it'll go by air - and if it's x-rayed (probable) someone will have a freak-out...

Another problem is the weight - it appears Royal Mail won't handle anything that big. At least when I try on their website, it gives no options but suggests PF.

Just phoned RM - although they may (?!) carry it (depending on who you ask), there's no more enhanced compensation available on standard parcels.

TNT won't carry it either. Hermes will (it appears) but their compensation only goes up to £250.

UK postal services are just utter fannies...

I sent a replica pistol through the post last year with royal mail who promptly seized it and sent it to Belfast for 'testing'. It then went missing somewhere between the royal mail depot and the Belfast police service. RM refused to pay out on the insurance as they have stated it was a 'dangerous' object. I've gone through all of the various appeals stages and am now looking at small claims court to try and get my money back.
