I think they are about the same price as the Hatsan escorts but are inertia cycling compared to gas on the hatsans, not sure if they do a pump on the revo. they seem to have a normal loading gate on the revo compared to the strange one on the hatsans.

They are quick to come up with ideas at the club but then slow to implement anything as before the revos came on the market they were going to do something to a weatherby but that never happened, maybe I will have to try and get more involved and drive it a bit to get anywhere.

You should be easily be able to get a S/H Benelli M2 for £900, probably decked out for PSG right off the bat, or just save another £200 and get a new one!? clapclap

Gas Guns
Pros
Softer on the shoulder (allegedly)
Usually have self-regulating, or manually adjusted gas system which make them less ammo fussy

Cons
Usually heavier, with the weight at the front of the gun (Improves swing for clays/game though)
More moving parts to break/wear out
Need to be kept cleaner than interia guns
Take longer to clean

Interia/Recoil Guns

Pros
Are almost always lighter than gas guns and better balanced, particularly once longer mag is added and filled
Point faster than a heavier gun
Can be shot for longer between cleanings
Have less parts to break
Take less time to clean and are straight forward to clean

Cons
Heavier recoil (allegedly) - however as 80-90% of PSG is done with clay/light game loads not much of an issue unless you are sleight of build or have a medical problem)
Some need a 'break in' period, and even after than can still be ammo fussy. (Fortunately my M2 is neither)

Do not, i repeat do NOT buy a Hatsan Until someone comes up with a way to make the loading gate behave i would not recommend one for PSG

A pump could be a cost effective solution and would give you plenty of money to play with out of £900. But if you're determined to get a semi, i'd say wait and save

I've had Mossy and Remy pumps, Hatsan and Remy semis and I'm currently running an inertia M2.

Want something ultimately reliable with any type of ammo from the lightest 24gm to 3.5" mag, get a Remy 870. Most reliable semi, the Remy 1100 again.....

I agree with Sim, I have a Remy 870 and it's not picky at all. Can also change barrels from smooth bore to slug barrel if needs be, my slug barrel has a cantilever scope mount with an Aimpoint sight on top or the slug barrels can be bought without the mount.

My 870 is very unfussy (when I remember to correctly crimp the loads I feed it that is...)

As for recoil action guns - spend £900-£1100 on an Italian toy with go-faster stripes & plastic dangly bits if you want

I'm going down the route of modifying THE long recoil action semi auto shotgun - the gun that started them all off & was in almost a century of production, in several factories & three continents. They can be picked up as S.1 for £150-£300 or so; just change a couple of springs & recoil bearings, add a Nordic extended mag. tube & away you go...Reliable enough that the British Army have them in the issue system & they were an issue item (in standard unmodified sporting configuration) to the point men on jungle patrols in Malaya & other such interesting places....
Look for post '56 ones as they have the 2-piece carriers & therefore can be speedloaded (gun fires last cartridge & action locks back in the open position...add a cartridge to the magazine tube - the gun is now ready to fire - as it automatically feeds the cartridge into the chamber as soon as you place it in the magazine...no bolt releases or catches to mess with. IT IS FAST)

Genitalmen, (& those that aint sure yet, seeing as SimG in in the thread now) I give you:

Back to basics example - looks slicker than snot, but needs the varnish on that stock fixing!!


DURACOATED - looks ok, I'd have gone with a darker colour, or not bothered: the oiled stock makes up for it though but!!

Unfortunately that would be Section 5 / prohibited in this country as by the legislations definition of a gun you would have a pump-action rifle which were 'banned' in 1988 :roll:
