I should add that the shotgun is currently down for for target shooting only. Land is a 6 acre small holding with sheep and a couple of ponies. So if I'm granted vermin control the land doesn't need clearing?

It's the fact that the FAC WILL need to be conditioned for vermin control use with the S.1 shotgun that is the main point...the land will probably be ok for shotgun use & not require a check.

Using a S.1 s/g for vermin without such use on the FAC is a breach of conditions...

I phoned the Firearms dept. earlier, going in for a variation next week.
Also joined BASC and have written permission from the land owner :good:

I'm also in Wiltshire, I asked for 1000/1500 of .22 and was only granted 500/600 as per all my other calibres..... odd. Another chap in my club, who is served by the same FEO as me was granted 1000/1500 at first application!!!

Uneventful day at the HQ yesterday.

Phoned in the morning and said to come in at lunchtime, which I did. Filled out the form and was told to wait in reception.
10 minutes later the lady comes back and says they cant do it on the spot. So I take my certificate and go off for an hour to resupply on ammo.
Come back and hand it in.

10 miles down the road I get a phone call from a confused Hampshire FEO.
He asked me about the land I want to shoot my shotgun on and the humane dispatch with a .22 rifle I own, no problems, doesn't need clearing for that :good:

So now waiting to hear back from Wilts police.

Asked for another .22, a .303 (and ammo), .44 BPR and more .22 ammo.

Hi CDM5,

In Essex they do not give you more than 1000 / 1200 .22 unless you are a county shooter. Or unless you buy loads and loads of ammo per month.
I have used more than 7000 .22 rounds in 7 months, asked for more and got rejected on the basis that the home office guidance is 1200 as a maximum to keep.

Not sure what will happen if you go for vermin control... will it help? no idea.
Regards,
