Everything they bring in is live, I know a few people have had live K98's from them too, saves them from the chop.

Yes, I was speaking about it to the guy today, he says for whatever reason they don't really push that side of the business, just focusing on the deact market, a lot of other dealers get their stock from ryton, and sell it on for what was refered to today as "southern prices". And yes they are expecting some more k98s this year, I think I'll be having one of those too. There is an element of 'saving' the rifles too, all the time I was in the container I could hear a milling machine munching more mosins!

For £110 did you get sling bayonet cleaning kit etc, if you did then thats a very good deal.

All the ones with matching bayonets had gone but there was mention of a sling and ammo pouches. The deal basically is the same as the ad they print in gunmart but without the deact work they are £10 less.

Mosin Nagants are a bit addictive and at the same can be a complete pain in the bum. They are a bit frustrating until you dial them in. Lots of (misleading) advice out there for you to pick and choose from. A few years since I bought a live one from Ryton and I bet some of our better known dealers will see a drop in sales now that the word is out how much they can be bought for. £110 for a Soviet log cannon is a bargain in anyone's book!
The bore will need cleaning on an industrial scale and clean patches take many hours to achieve. They tend to chuck lead high and right. Corrosive ammo is fine but remember to clean the bore thoroughly after use. You may have a problem with the bolt sticking after firing (to the point where you may have to whack it with a lump of wood to lift it) however this is a result of cosmolene and lacquer (from the steel ammo cases) binding together when hot - clean the receiver thoroughly!
Not slagging them off! I have many from lots of countries and always take extra rounds to the range because everyone wants a go, especially the carbines in low light. The muzzle flash and report can be awesome!

Some interesting points to consider there Blighty. My new purchase has some cosmoline on it but it is not as lathered as some in the crate! I was planning on stripping the barrelled action out of the stock and giving it and the other metal a good wash in some industrial degunkifier we have at work, then leaving the stock to sweat in the sun come summer. Are there any cosmoline removal tips people can recommend? As for the bore I take it patience, elbow grease and a load of hoppes #9 are in order....

One easy method I use to clean off the cosmoline is to pour boiling water over the metalwork (use an old toothbrush on the tricky bits), this melts the cosmoline and washes it away, then wipe the rest off with plenty of WD40.
