Cast boolits makes shooting accurate rifles accurately interesting.

Hmmm, our problem is we lack the time or the skill to take up what would be yet another hobby !

Not really another hobby just a part of the same hobby.

It is a lot easier and cheaper to make boolits to fit your rifle than to make rifles to fit the bullets.

If you are looking for a 800+yrd capable round from a short action then I'd recommend the 6.5 Creedmoor or .260 Remington. Both will get out easily to 1200 and will smash the .308 for drop and wind at 1k.

In a steady wind at Bisley, I zeroed windage on the new 260rem and a 308win at 200yds. By the time I was at 600the 308 had 10mins of wind whereas the 260 had only 2.5.
As far as the come-up went the 260 performed correct to the 300WinMag turrets I had (came with the Leupold Mk4 along with 308 and a MOA-only turrets) and when I eventually got to 1000yards it was only 1 click out from the WinMag ideal.

The 260 with 140 and 142 SMKs out performs my 308 with 155match bullets in every way. The only problem is it makes me lazy with wind calls as it's less of a factor.

I recently used my .243 out to 1100yrds with 90gr Berger BT bullets. They were flying at 3250 so were still supersonic at the distance. 1200yrds is out as its transonic at 1187yrds. In the 5-6 mph wind I was using 2-2 1/2 minutes of wind at 800 and 3 minutes at 1100. My mate with his .308 had to use a little more wind than me ( I don't know the exact numbers but Hauptman might be able to say ).

Actually, ooman, we've acquired two different 6.5s since then but both of 'em old interesting guns in 6.5x55 Swedish rather than a modern high accuracy target rifle. They are Carl Gustafs, one from 1899 and one from 1905. Both are quite accurate...
