Boots (for feet, not chemists!)

#1 Post by johngarnett »

Guys and guyess's

This is shooting related 'cos I'll use them shooting but I'm not sure where to post this, so .......

Any advice on what make and where to buy walking boots please? I know some are 'obtained' via HMG but I was thinking more of shop boots!

I need a waterproof boot that is warm and a healthy tread. I have wellies, as everyone in Cornwall does, and no, I don't use them as the Welsh do :shakeshout:

Thanks for any help

ooman, you're unlikely to find better boots or service than at Altberg. Klikky http://www.altberg.co.uk/

We had a pair paw made for us in 1987 and we're still using them today. They've been to the sub zero temperatures of Noggin land to the +50 C of Iraq and Kuwait. They have climbed Cadair Idris with the same comfort as they tackled thew NIJmegen March. They are good in rain, snow, ice, sand, grit and London.

Indestructabubble.

Not expensive either for boots that may outlive you... Some of our colleagues have bought off the peg Altbergs and rated those equally highly.

+1 for Altberg. good kit.
Mine were made to measure no idea how long I have had them years and years.
If I needed a new pair of boots I would make a bee line for Altbergs.

Altberg.
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

Belleville, make sure they are the goretex ones, in this country you need it;)

Speed lacing, very comfy.

Try eBay, there is a UK dealer but I have forgotten the details.
If you can find a pair in your size then eBay is by far the cheapest.

I use Salomon Quest 4D boots I bought at LD Mountain Centre 4 years ago now.
They are Goretex and are as comfortable and waterproof as the day I bought them.
Used them for after ski in deep snow, for shooting at Diggle when it chucks it down, for walking and love them.
They were expensive then at £100 and they are around the £130 mark now.
I am sure there are cheaper ones that are Goretex on the market, but I work at an outdoor company in the footwear dept, and they are the more popular non leather boot we sell and have a good user review of that boot.
