dishwasher + Gun
OK... I hate cleaning guns... my taurus revolver is a little dirty now, is there any reason I shouldn't take the grips of and stick it in the dishwasher??
Re: dishwasher + Gun
No reason what so ever bung it in. Might take some of the bluing off just be carefull what cleaning fluid you use.

I know someone who does this with his Ruger old army because he dislikes cleaning it.However,it is the stainless version.

We have done oily things in the dishwasher before, tends to make the black lining a bit funny...

Re: dishwasher + Gun
The NRA cleans its BP Pistols and deep cleans its Ruger 10/22s using an ultrasonic cleaner and industrial detergent (different detergents for the pistols (steel) and the 10/22s (aluminium)). It works a treat.
The standard way of cleaning a .303" used to be a gallon of boiling water down the barrel, then dry and oil. The RAFSAA site at Bisley still has an outdoor tap connected directly to the boiler outlet, 5 ft up on the wall and an odd-shaped funnel that fits against the wall with a narrow spout that goes through the working parts into the barrel.
