I have had for over 20 years now what I believe to be a "58 issue" sleeping bag. The one with a waterproof base and down insulation.
Although it saw more action then than now, it is still in very good condition and it still has a place in my stores, just in case etc.
I wonder if anyone knows of any professional cleaning and reproofing companies that could freshen it up a bit? Looking on ebay, they do not fetch a high price so it may be cost prohibitive.
On a similar note and completely chancing my arm, should you have an issue gortex bivi bag, Snugpak sleeping bag or set of PLCE webbing (or anything else similar) laying around that you would happily pass on to a Cadet Instructor, I would be a willing recipient,

Have a read of the Mountain Equipment website - http://www.mountain-equipment.co.uk/hel ... down_bags/ which also lists some professional cleaners.
Maybe a call to MEs help desk and ask if they can suggest anyone who could also refill the bag with additional down if required. I have used ME for 30 years and always for them very helpful. For example, I wanted one of their bags which has an elasticated section to allow bending around the hips/knees but with additional length! No problem, just a 6 week wait and I had what I wanted for a very small premium.

Re: 58 Issue sleeping bag
I've got a similar one in my static caravan where I go stalking (Yeh I do like my home comforts at my age!) and I air it out after use.
I have to say it is a bit whiffy now. I got it ex army many years ago and it's done a lot of travelling.
I looked for a replacement but couldn't fing anything nearly as good.
