New Indoor Toy - Suggestions?
Having parted with 3 guns (thanks to Dromia!) I now have 3 free 1 for 1 variations to apply for.
First will be another 22LR rifle for club plinking, Second will be a .223/5.56 for the range and possibly fox/pest as I've been asked a few times but I'm not happy about shooting animals.
The third slot is the problem, ideally something with a pistol calibre for indoor range use (please don't suggest another SGC 9mm!), I already have a very nice Henry in .44 and the .22LR is covered. Only other thing that I really would like is a sec.1 shotgun for practical/target but my lack of mobility may preclude that option.
So, any suggestions for an indoor pistol calibre gun that's fun to shoot?

Please don't take this the wrong way - but if you lack the mobility for the shotgun - Please do not start shooting live quarry with a .223 - it is all well and good from a truck - but what happens when you wound something and it needs following up, 3 or 4 fields away PDQ.
Please think about this long and hard, I do an awful lot of live quarry/game shooting and although we strive for one shot one kill, it does not always work that way, you then have a duty of care to ensure the animal is followed up and dispatched as quickly and humanely as possible.
How about keeping the 9mm slot and looking at one of the Armalon 9mm bolt actions built around an enfield?

I certainly won't take it the wrong way, it's one of the main reasons I've not been keen on the idea in the past. I fully agree with having respect for quarry and couldn't live with the thought of wounding an animal and not being able to finish the job quickly and humanely.
I'll have a look at the Armalon and if there's anything in muzzle loading that looks and feels like a modern shaped revolver, I find the "old west" type pistol grips very uncomfortable for my large hands being 6' 5 and a bit inches!

How about a Sarony No4 conversion in 9mm?
Re: New Indoor Toy - Suggestions?
Hi,
I've been looking at one of Alan Westlake's converted 357 muzzle loading revolvers. This runs on nitro and is built on what looks like a double action Smith & Wesson 357 clone made by Armscor. Fires soft lead wadcutters.
I checked them out at the Phoenix, on show Alan had a standard conversion, and a match version with adjustable target sights and a six inch s/steel barrel.
This was well balanced, felt comfortable in the hand with a nice trigger pull, and being nitro, a bit more convenient than black powder, and cheaper to run. Takes just 3.5 grains of Herco per round, so lots of bangs for your buck. Well worth a look.

Don't let mobility issues put you off PSG outright, one of the members that shoots it through the Mayfair is on sticks most of the time! Get yourself down to the quarry next time its on and give it a go with an S2 gun. If you've not got one just let me know and i'll get something sorted out for you. Next ones are pencilled in for 23rd June and 28th July

Hi Mark
Yes. I've got Sec2 guns, semi & O/U. Which quarry is it in, and what time does it usually start?
Thanks, Jeff

I refer to it as Pittington quarry but it's not actually in Pittington . . . If you use Google Earth/Maps and type in 'Hetton Le Hill' it takes you 99% of the way there (Just follow the road towards Easington Lane for about 150m). Its the gated turn-in on the North side of the road (on the left if coming from High Pittington)
The semi is probably the better option, although i am trying to get a double-barreled day sorted soon
Apart from the gun you need 75-100 fibre wad cartridges, shooting glasses, hearing protection, something you can use as a breach flag and if you've got some kind of loading belt that would be handy, although almost everyone who shoots there started by loading from a pocket
The gate is normally locked at 1030am, so be there for 1015am

The gate on the left just past the turn off for Elemore Hall school on the right I assume, takes you into a clump of trees smile2
23rd I have a bouncy castle coming at 9am for my daughters 18th but I may be able to sneak out if I bribe her
