Basically tool steel as I needed to be able to do all the heat treatment too. It is all a quite 'involved' process to make them!ovenpaa wrote:Lovely work, very good indeed. What materials did you use for the dies?
Re: DIY Swaging dies!
I have been building some Anvil pins for dies recently and finding the right material has not been easy.

WANT!
I saw videos on someone making these for plinking last year sometime, and wondered how involved it would be just to make the bullets using these, nevermind the actual dies to make them!
What kind of accuracy do you get from them? good enough for 600 yards? or more of a plinking round (1-300yards)?

Have 'bonded' some, they turned out really nice!

Re: DIY Swaging dies!
sorry, what do you mean by bonded some?
Re: DIY Swaging dies!
Basically drop the lead core in the jacket put couple drops of flux in with the core then gas mark 15* ....
Basically the core gets soldered (bonded) to the jacket, makes for a tougher bullet. I imagine they will work nicely for Munties etc without huge meat damage. I'm making 57grain bonded core for my 22-250.
* joking, 375ºC for 20 mins.
