Custom Ruger 10/22

#1 Post by Lyons »

Hey I've been researching a custom ruger 10/22 and wondered if anyone could give me feedback/recommendations on the setup?

Volquartsen carbon barrel with comp
Kidd 2 stage trigger with speed release
Elite receiver
Kidd match bolt
Trex stock

Thanks
Scott

i run a vol carbon barrel on a 10/22 which i did a lot of work on myself and it was a real shooter at around the 1" at 100m on a good day so i can only imagine that using quality reciever/trigger group parts would give similar results?

There's no problems with the parts you've selected. However, I'd go with a much heavier stock............ so you can hold it bt the barrel and hit Mike with it!!
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

Scott,

That is a lot of money for a trick 10/22. I would question how well it would shoot over a standard Ruger and is it really worth that extra dosh?

I started with a Rimfire Magic 10/22 with a Green Mountain heavy barrel. I found the Barrel was too heavy for competition so swapped it for a Tactical Solution Job which transformed the gun.
The standard mag release is also of little use in competitions, so a extended job will be necessary.
Other than that I am not sure what benefits you will get from spending out on the action and bolt - possibly costing more than a new 10/22.

Good luck whatever you chose to do, they sure are a fun gun and I am missing my old one,

That's a fair point. But that said, what's the objective? To customise a Ruger 10/22 or build a custom 10/22? Certainly a lot will be down to personal taste and personal budget but a customised Ruger 10/22 and a custom 10/22 are different animals.

I went the long way round. Bought a Ruger 10/22 then swapped and added parts and ended up with a nicely customised gun. When taste decided I wanted an "upgrade", I built a custom 10/22. The custom looks nicer, "feels" nicer and really does perform better with a wide range of ammo, not just the one type the Ruger prefered.

Hey everyone, I'm currently at work so will get round to replying to the previous questions but thought I'd reply to this one first.

There's nothing wrong as such but the rifle cost £80 and is pretty old. I'm wanting something new but want to keep a hold of the one I've got at the same time. I scored 293 (possible 300) with the Ruger on sunday in the wind and came 3rd so wasn't too bad.
