A strange enfield

#1 Post by honsu »

Hi all on Gunwebsites you tube page he has a video of a Enfield MK3 which is fulley supresed and converted to 45 acp.

He says it is a replica of a WW2 rifle the British Commandos used to kill guards.

I have never seen a rifle like this from that conflict just wondering if any of you guys had any more info on it.

Also I would like a rifle like this instead of the normal under leaver rifles.

Thats absolutely correct its the DeLisle commando carbine , I read about this some time ago heres the account and you wont get better info than this http://www.rifleman.org.uk/The_DeLisle_carbine.htm
A couple of bits from this article , when they got the test model to London they wanted to know how good it was so it was test fired out of an office window at pigeons , also a .22 rf test model was made as a one off which was handed over to the National Army Museum as it was such a rare item but they lost it , so if you ever come across one in .22 rf :55:
By the way you will need a very fat wallet if you want to buy a modern repro and even more to try and find an original .

I know a couple of people who got modern replicas and shooting it was one of the most disappointing experiences of my life.

In my opinion a complete waste of money for something which provides fleeting amusement which serves no practical purpose. I was expecting it to be completely silent apart from the operation of the bolt action. It's difficult to recall the last time a rifle, which others had assured me was the "ultimate" moderated gun, had left me so sadly underwhelmed.

I had the pleasure of playing with a DeLisle many years ago (2001) and I was astounded by effectiveness of the moderator - no more than a hand-clap! Very interesting history if anyone cares to read it but of course absolutely useless as a target gun.

Fired one of the modern copies about 20 years ago, I think it was a Walter Gun Co one - but not 100% sure on that as this company springs to mind as I used to have one of the copies of the Welrod pistol that they made too

As per the DeLisle - the one I used looked the part - but grouped like a shotgun at spitting distances!!
The lad I went along to advise had been all keen to buy it IF it was ok - as soon as he saw the groups that was that....

My .02c would be to find something that LOOKS like the WW2 version but has a more modern method of silencing it - NOT RUBBER BAFFLES/SWIPES as the originals had

The booklet on the DeLisle is a great read and is full of facts and drawings and pics of most of the versions that were made
