Deer Stalking… reliable word of mouth recommendation from someone you know has undertaken such stalking being offered by a specific syndicate is best. Like other walks of life, stalking has its scammers. E.G., make sure there is deer, of the species sought, on the land being made available; that appropriate insurance is in place; that there is recourse for recompense if it all goes wrong. In addition, obtain and understand terms and conditions; consider the implications of allowing a syndicate leader to be a FAC mentor; make sure ‘coaches’ are suitably qualified; consider the quality of deer management, the construction & execution of a shooting plan and safety; determine if the land is over-shot.
If in doubt, contact BASC or similar.

Oscar Wilde notoriously described fox hunting as "The unspeakable in persuit of the inedible"
Maybe he had tried fox!

Perhaps I should make the effort to read one of his books some day.The Gun Pimp wrote:Oscar Wilde notoriously described fox hunting as "The unspeakable in persuit of the inedible"

Talking of Moles I remember walking up towards Kinder Scout in the Peak one cold windy morning in near horizontal sleet, out of the gloom appeared a barbed wire fence with things on it. Closer examination revealed over 30 dead moles hung from the fence, I assume it was some kind of macabre warning to other moles, thing is I was always told they were nearly blind and the moles were hung from the top of the fence, neatly hooked over the barbs.

I would definately try it once. If it tasted ok and there was no risk of TB (like there is with badger), then yes.
Apparently hedgehog is a good one. make a ball of it with clay and cook on an open fire for an hour then just crack the clay and it pulls off all the spines. Easy meal.
