News from the NRA

The NRA still doesn't get shooting beyond Bisley. Up to a year or two ago people more than 150 miles from Bisley paid a lesser fee because they couldn't take advantage of Bisley as often. They've now been restructuring the fees, they have got rid of the distance difference so members over 150 miles away pay more and members who are less than 150 miles pay less. What sort of signal does that send out to the regions. I've been a NRA member for many years now but find it very hard to put convincing arguments to my shooting friends and colleagues as to its relevance to them. To be honest it has none. The insurance is used as an argument but I can get as good for less if I am just looking at insurance, we've had that discussion here anyway.

I was going to leave this year, but have decided to give it another 12 month to see if the NRA will do something for me in the NE, not for me in Surrey, instead of years of asking what I would do for it.

We've had fine words and hope from Glyn Alger but he has yet to walk the talk.

Dodgyrog's post on the establishment is a perception that the vast majority of shooters have of the NRA in this country and the NRA, employess who post her excepted, has or is doing nothing to dispel it.

Totally agree I also live in the North East of England and have been shooting more years than I care to rememember.There is lots of talk but no action. NRA membership is a waste of money as far as I am concerned.

To be relevant the NRA has to be and be seen to be more than just Bisley, that is why moving from there would be such a positive step. It would also free up the NRA's thinking to something other than target and match rifle and start to reflect British shooting not just a minority aspect of it.

NRA membership gives us the necessary insurance we need, access to Bisley so we can shoot at 100-1200 as and when we wish, plus the ability to enter hosted competitions. Downside is they only have one location and travel even from Bedfordshire can be a nightmare and the camp still needs considerable investment. I was hoping the Olympics would have a positive impact on this and we could have got either a totally new venue somewhere or a complete makeover of the existing facilities.

Sadly this does not look like it will be happen.

Yes Bisley ranges are fantastic but this year I'll be looking to see if Diggle will meet my long range needs, if so Bisley wil be even less relevant to me, its a shame that the NRA will be less so as well.

Yes Diggle certainly looks like it might be worth a look.

Diggle has a fantastic range of facilities. At weekend it was cold and wet yet about 25 of us shot the McQueen comp. under cover!

Diggle has covered firing points at 100, 300, 600 and 1000 yards and caters for just about every discipline. Plus a nice warm centally heated club house with kitchen, toilets, showers, members lounge.
