Primer issue

#1 Post by pcon »

Hi guys & gals,

I have a load for my FTR gun with Lapua 155 scenars :

47.72 gr - Varget (*Compressed load)
OAL from ogive - 2.231
Backed off 12 thou of the lands
Federal 210M primers

But Now all I can get are Fedral 215M primers is there any one using these magnum primers in such a load or should I scratch it and start a new development load???

You have changed a component of your load and therefore should work up the load again. I would start at 5% lower than your normal load. You may find that the magnum primer significantly changes the velocity/pressure for a given charge of powder compared to the 210gm primer.

Certainly work up by at least 5% and in an ideal world hold out for Fed210M, as an alternative see if you can find some CCI BR - I have found them to be very close to the Fed210M

I had planned on backing off to 45 gr. to allow for the hotter faster burn of the magum primer... as I'm new to this , I just said I'd check.
