Getting difficult to get stuff out of the US.......
For over 25 years I've been getting parts and the likes from the US. Obviously the choice is staggering and the prices, even with shipping and taxes, is still considerably cheaper that buying in the UK. But, when you consider that my old 1911, IPSC gun was built with everything, excluding the frame, from parts sourced in the US, today's stance of the US government is frustrating.....
It seems everything needs a bloody licence to export!! And they are expensive. Tried getting an extended mag release for the Mini 14 from Brownells. No, can't export. Tried some bits for a Remy 870 project, no, only ship to a US address. Won't ever get a GSG5 110 round mag and now, Hogue grips for a Taurus revolver are ITAR controlled according to Opticsplanet!!!! FFS!
Grips for a .22 LBR are WMD!!
Of course, the suspicion in me thinks perhaps this is Obamas gun control via the back door....... ITAR everything, cut down a company's ability to export, comany eventually goes belly up, no one then left to makes guns and stuff. It's a long game, but then it did take 50 years to destroy our own BoR.....

In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

Yup, same difficulties.
Two years ago got two ruger 50rd magazines.
Late last year ordered more from the same company, "sorry, can't send to UK"
Sinclair, two years ago bought cases. Last year and currently " Not to UK"
So
frustrating!

Bugger!
I have a project that I'm about to start and I'll possibly be needing some bits from the US. Might need to see if MidwayUK has them in stock - just in case.

SimG.
Nah can't see it mate, if the companies relied on exports a few of them would have gone belly up already. I think the US market is big enough to sustain them, besides they'll just up the prices over here. Also all the ITAR stuff is aimed at guys like you and the other shooters, the gun makers not so much because they ship complete firearms and the rules I'm sure will be slightly different. Besides they've got all the lawyers and RDF's/FFL's along with the other folks to take care of the paperwork.
This is part of the UN bullsh!t President Obama and his side kick The US Attorney (lets arm the drug cartels) General, Eric Holder got into. Parts are still coming into the US no problem, it's the export from the US to you guys that it's screwed. The only way to reverse these laws is under a Republican government and to be honest, I'm not exactly crazy over those folks either, both Dems and the GOP suck. The GOP's only saving grace is they are pro gun and with a wee bit of pressure from the NRA, usually overturn anti gun laws the Dems put in place.

Can't see it being ITAR as we are not in a restricted country, only problem should be if you are not a British national as there is a big list of restricted countries and nationalities. More likely to do with EU import restrictions and their long standing trade war with US. Unless one of these companies you have tried using is definitely saying its ITAR.
I had to sit through an ITAR meeting yesterday, talk about boring sh!te, 2nd one in a year now.
Do you know anyone in the US that you could get the stuff shipped to and then they send to you?

Re: Getting difficult to get stuff out of the US.......
I was looking through a Chinese style warehouse site (dealextreme.com) that has discount items, actually looking for items for my mountain bike, but eventually searched for shooting equipment.
The Chinese are churning out tones of the stuff, everything from pistol grips to optics - most of it imitations of licensed brands in the USA.
I can not help thinking that if there is a world wide market for the stuff someone outside the USA who can make quality items, could do rather well for them selves. If only there was a recession on and machines stood idle someone could cash in on the situation...

I suspect China is responsible for supplying a lot of the genuine items for America as well.I was looking at an item the other day that was described as 'Designed in America' No mention of manufacturing source.
It was an upmarket part for an AR15.

That should come as no surprise, Norinco has been knocking out AR-15 clones for some time now.It was an upmarket part for an AR15.

If it's a gun part it will still require an export licence, even doing it the way suggested.Do you know anyone in the US that you could get the stuff shipped to and then they send to you?
