How do they shoot?..............very well, I think.

The Beaumont and the Mauser 71/84 are both blackpowder rifles.

The Mauser 71/84 is really smooth in action with an excellent trigger and in good light, when I can see the sights, I can usually get 10 shots in the black at 200 yards with a reasonable number in the bull. It does group quite well. I think that of all my blackpowder rifles this is the most satisfying and easiest to use.

The Beaumont is also a nice smooth action but the trigger is a bit heavier, I think that has to do with the trigger spring, which unlike most bolt actions, is a Vee spring in the bolt handle. That said it is easy to use and will also put most shots well inside the black at 200 yards.

The GEW88 "Commission" Rifle has the same sights as the 71/84 but uses smokeless 8X57 ammunition. The problem is that the barrels on these old GEW88s is only .318" as opposed to the later Mauser 98s that are .323", so using the same ammunition case head seperation is a problem, also is the fact that the action is not all that strong and modern 8X57 ammunition is a bit powerful for this rifle. I have used up a small supply of Privi ammunition, with very satisfying results, and will now load the cases using 220 grain gas checked lead bullets to see how that performs.

Thanks for the info Tman, i would be interested in hearing how the cast boolits perform in the G88 when you get round to it.
I shoot a Kar88 with gas checked cast myself.
