Laser Eye Surgery

Just had it done, don't know why I waited so long. Had a follow up check today following the procedure on Wednesday and my eyesight is now 20/10 or 6/3, depending on what system you use, and healing well. So no more glasses for me.

May I ask what your prescription was before the operation and your approximate age group? I am -6 and -7 wear daily contacts and am mid 50's, I often think about getting it done so will be interested to hear how you get on with things like close up work and shooting.

I had this done about 25 years back - was a guinea pig for it in the UK

Back then the technique they were doing was PRK

Seems to be ok, not had any long term results as yet

Had two Consultations with Ultralase, on first eyes were thoroughly checked and prescription determined, followed by two scans to map my eyes for laser treatment. Initially I was identified as suitable and opted or the most expensive and best result giving treatment at £4400 for both eyes.

On the day of treatment eyes were checked again and there appeared to be a change in prescription, as a result Surgeon asked for somemore scans. Bottom line was that he considered my prescription to be so weak, -0.75R and -0.5L, that the expensive treatment would not produce any better results than the basic treatment. Secondly he suggested that I only have one eye treated, the -0.75 which coincidentally is my dominant eye, and leave the other. I took his advice and had 'Mono' vision treatment, the advantages being that I would not need reading glasses post treatment. Finally rather than £4400 (£3500 with Armed Forces discount) I only have to pay £750 with discount.

The treatment has worked in my case, not had a real chance to assess effect on night vision yet. The stronger your correction the better the results, however if you are over 40 they advise that reading glasses will be needed if you have both eyes corrected for distance.

I had it in 2010, amazing! I was -3.75 and -3.25 and was 19 at the time. I was considered suitable because my prescription hadn't changed for about five years.

-4.25 and -4.75 when mine were done 2 years ago,worked fine, no starring and as a bonus I managed to throw my reading glass's out! although in another year or so I'll need them again, other than that vision is good enough to see the target markers at 300 yards unaided

I've been strongly considering this procedure, but its a lot of cash to fork out :(

Me too, but the same thing put me off. Oh, and the fact that they plane the front of your eyeball off before they laser it... sign01
