Advice regarding case trimmer and case cleaner please.

#1 Post by Watcher »

I expect to shoot (and reload) a total of between 2-300 rounds of .303 and 7.62 per annum. Given that that's a fairly small amount can anyone advise me on a suitable trimmer and case cleaner?

Hannam's have some reasonably priced Lyman stuff but I'm not sure which of the two or three options would be best.

I use both Lyman tumbler and trimmer, and they have never let me down, and I do reload a lot (1000+ a year)... Tumbler is Pro 1200 turbo & Trimmer is the universal with the multi pack of pilots (get the drill adaptor shaft) saves your arm.

I can only advise on what I use, but a proper case trimmer runs to about £100

Where as a LEE case trimmer and case guage are about £20.00 - You stick your LEE case holder into an electric drill, insert the case in the holder, screw the case gauge into the trimmer and place the whole assembly into the case mouth. You hold the trimmer with your hand and turn the drill on.

This cuts the cases fine.

As to cleaner, well, I took the advise on this forum, I stick my cases in a sock and bung 'em in the washing machine.

When you have trimmed the cases you will need to deburr inside and outside of the neck, so you will need a deburring tool.

Yup.

I said that at first too. I cannot remember who gave me the advise now, sorry.

But take some old socks, double them up, and load them with cases. Stick them in your normal wash, they come out very clean, then just leave them to dry.

That might need some careful negotiation but we'll see.

Hi Watcher. For trimming I use the Sinclair trimmer (manual) which keeps the case held in a case holder and then just chamfer with an RCBS tool which does the job nicely.
For cleaning I use an Ultrasonic cleaner which I preferred over the tumbler.
