I own one of each. I would have thought it would be the other way round. The SwIng bolt is quite stiff to open - certainly the most force I've known on any type of rifle. The RPA opens with two fingers.

Look down the the line at any F-Class Comp and you will see quite a few RPAs as well as the odd Swing and Paramount. RPAs are one of the easiest opening actions out there. The number of bolt lugs has nothing to do with the so called stiff bolt opening. Some Swings and Paramounts do suffer from being hard to open because some were manufactured with little if any primary extraction. The paramount and swings often have no primary extraction because the cam on the bolt handle does not meet up with the cam in the bolt cut out. Does not stop them being competitive rifles though. I'll be using my Paramount this year in F/TR and have no worries about 'stiff' opening.

With a reasonable bipod on an F/TR rifle I would not have thought bolt lift would be an issue and the rifle is going to hop a bit and disturb the position of the rifle anyway.

I think such a rifle would make an excellent and ethically pure F/TR rifle.

Guys,

Thanks to Hauptman I have been able to add some nice pictures of a Swing Mark 4 to my Wikipedia article - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swing_rifles. As always if you can help with pictures of the other marks I'd be very grateful.

Just a bit of software trickery. I do appreciate your offering as well though.

I have a Mk 3 that does not have a cast action and does have the seperate bolt handle. I've also seen one marked "Swing Scotland" from the short time George was there.
