Ideas needed ASAP

Now that is one thing that needs sorting out the NRA web site , its all there but just not an easy site to navigate round .
I think it should be easier to book a range / lane at Bisley so long as you are a club member with NRA affiliation , without the hassle of turning it into a club event to be able to do it .
But I suppose the NRA run Bisley so why should they just let anyone turn up and shoot . As much as I would like to shoot more belong to several clubs the economic climate at the moment means that wont happen .

yep ... Watcher and oth scouts leaders have been locked-up in the Tower of London by Boris Johnson for showing a legal side of firearms to children before they could scream "PC buffon" !!

Answer: I dunno. Haven't a clue. I have no idea how to start, who to talk to, how much it'll cost what disciplines are shot, nothing. Plus, I live about 4 hours away so it's not like I can just walk down the road to the office and enquire.

I find the NRA website just a mash of text, there's a "how to book targets" section, but I'm still none that wiser.

Seems all very "fraternity" and "gentleman's club" to me with no real effort to actually encourage "outsiders".

Sorry, but that's just my experince.

How about a programme of working with the Scout Association at HQ level to introduce shooting to the Scouts.

How about identifying and engaging with the heads of sport in every Education Authority and ultimately in every school?

Scouts already have a shooting badge, if my boys group are anything to go by they don't have a clue where to start or skills to teach them. Maybe the NRA / NSRA should sponser an outreach by offering air rifles at cost and a simple competion, and to bring the cost down to the scout unit let them use a NRA target that they can print out (yes I know you will not get any copyright money on it, but spend to invest and the spend on the target would be small).

Because they can only do the shooting badge when they are in the scouts I just had to get my boys hobby badge in the cubs with target shooting my .22lr

Introduce it as education working with the police, so the police can do there gun / weapon talk and then the shooting side is about handling guns correctly to enforce to the young people that they are not toys.

Has the NRA thought of giving this training FoC (nasty phrase the the NRA I know), to members of gun clubs who sign up to assigning scouting units?

I'm a scout leader up in East Lancs and I'm 'on the case' as it were. I'll shortly be approaching the NRA to aks what they can do to help me.

Despite the names both clubs are quite happy to take scout troops from all over the UK. They taught me to shoot and did a rather good job between them! Do give John Dohoo a ring - he's a most accommodating fellow.

Thanks for that; I've got a pal who does a lot with the Surrey Scouts Shooting Club so I've got that connection. Going to start up here in Lancashire first then think about Bisley.

I'm going to stand up for the NRA here. Could they do better? Well yes they could, but I've never had a problem with them. I found the Open Days a really good and easy way to get started, that led very easily to the Probationary Course and the guys there hepled me join a club. All very easy really easy. Since then the guys in the Range Office have been friendly and helpful. Booking a target is also really. I admit I live in Bisley itself which makes life easy for me.

If we all lived in Bisley none of us would have any thing to complain about. The point is we dont all live in Bisley. I live in the North East of England what good is Bisley to me. I want local ranges and facilities like Bisley within driving distance of were I live. They are no good to me down South.

The NRA need to reach out, how about selling Bisley and buying some redundant Army ranges out in the regions?
