I watched my wife rip off most of a mag on full auto with an LSW M/04. Somebody asked if she had made a mistake and forgotten to let go of the trigger. Judging by the grin on her face and the shrieks of delight I doubt it somehow...

Australian team shooter shoots at home prize meeting with about 10 members watching. Goes from 600 to 800 yards and forgets to wind up, shots hits mantelet, dust seen by onlookers. Very funny (snickering laughter in the background type noise)....he adjusts on the spot which could be clearly seen and promptly shoots a V for second sighter...not sure which bit was more embarrassing, being seen by "low grade" shooters doing something Newbie stupid, or adjusting and shooting better the next shot than any of us could...

Self has new rifle untested to shoot at neighbouring club. First two shots go through the number board (the actual number, later made known to everyone by RO - thanks mate), which is about 12 minutes UNDER the target frame proper at 400 meters.

Fox shooting at some time or other. Place hornet round in single shot Walther, clear shot at fox in paddock. Rifle only makes click sound, have bullet and powder, but NO PRIMER. Self made reloads of course.

Helping new shooter at club with the club rifle. It is a 223 Rem scoped rifle used on a rest. I was looking the other way, and the person say the rifle won't load as I had instructed. I looked in the loading port to see a 308 Win round....

I have got to ask....how did the powder stay in the case without a primer?

I tend to prep the cases and then hand them to Christel who throws the powder, throw being the operative word when I have inadvertently slipped a case in without a primer, she has filled it and then lifted it out of the tray to inspect it, with finer powders such as SP9 which sprays all over the place, usually into the adjacent previously filled cases resulting in the whole tray of cases having to be emptied.

She has modified her loading technique these days and I pay more attention to the cases I give her

For some stupid reason despite it clearly says in the manual that you should never need to dissassemble the bolt of my .308 (Steyr SSG04), i knew better and took it to pieces. Obviously i couldn't put it back together as its done by machine, took it to 2 RFD's and still no joy. In the end it had to go back to the Steyr factory in Austria. a £50 mistake i won't be making again anytime soon :lol:

And i've lost count of the number of 'deadmans clicks' i've had in practical shotgun comps, normally when its an Option 2 start (magazine loaded, chamber empty) and i haven't pressed that *** silver button on my M2!

Sitting in a converted freight container, on an observation post overlooking bandit country, NI. I'm sitting on the bed cleaning my rifle when the t*@t in the next bed lets off a round. Had ringing in our ears for days!

Climbing into the back of a Puma helo and it lifts off as a L2 grenade rolls out from under the webbing type bench. A real pucker moment until I realised it was still safe. One of the noobs in the helo before obviously hadn't secured his grenade pouch!

I once visited an old boy who lived out in a remote cottage in a marsh. In his front room he had a great big old leather seat which looked like it had been gutted - just some leather covering a timber frame and very little stuffing. He kept it in the house to remind him of the time he was stupid enough to shoot it with his Tooley 8bore. He claimed that he only meant to try his own loaded shells for fit when he dropped 2 shells into the barrels.

Off topic I know but when I read Steyr SSG04 my ears pricked up.

I own a very old Steyr SSG-P1 with the original Khales scope that I will never part with in .308 that is so acurate it is scary.

So I googled the SSG04.

I NEED ONE OF THOSE.
