Re: Long shots with older rifles
The Mosin is graduated out to 2,000 meters so obviously that is the range it is capable of

the mount is a St Marie mount I got while in the States, you can get them from Andy Allwood, no K31 was hurt in the making of this postAL8 wrote:Kenny what is that mount, is it over bore of off center, and where did you get it from? I am thinking of putting a scope on mine. Thats a tidy looking rifle

no marks and one Allen screw is all that holds it in place, takes 30 secs to removeScotsgun wrote:Kenny, that's terrible. How could you mount a scope on that schmidt rubin? I hope you didn't need to hack into or drill that fine rifle.
I regularly shoot out beyond 1200-1300yds with my 'modern' rifles and out to 1000 with my older rifles.

Re: Long shots with older rifles
you may be able to see the target Kenny but you may struggle using 20x mag for the McQueen at 200 yards as you probably won't be able to see the whole castle in the scopes f.o.vkennyc wrote:duff eyed doyle wrote:Kenny that is just wrong! may see you Sunday to discuss this abortion if I can blag a last minute day off. :mrgreen:I am also thinking towards the club McQueens comp next month
at least with 20x I ought to have a chance to see the target
Re: Long shots with older rifles
How wide is the vertical post on a No32 Mk1? It looked to be around 1.4 times the width of the frame, trust me to choose the smallest frame on the range. I had great fun with it at 1000 yards and as long as I was on the frame it was putting in 12" 3 shot groups which seriously impressed me given that I was shooting factory S&B. I did fall off the target a couple of times and it would take 2-3 shots to get back on again. Shooting at such a small target with a 3.bowl 'scope at 1000 does hone your wind skills.
1200 was not so good

2008, StIckledown Indian copy number five. Iron sights, no sling/bipod - unsupported.
S&B cases, 42.5 gr Accurate 2520, S&B 2909.
Ten shots, all on target, last three 'V' bulls, witnessed by Hamish Tucker, may you rest in peace you old FRISP
Must try it again one day.

Well I was on the frame which is probably 1.2m across but staying there was a problem
