12 or 14 inch cleaning rods....

#1 Post by Sim G »

Anyone know of cleaning rods around the 12 to 14 inch length? Full and small bore for LBR's and other short barrels. Getting on my nerves now using full length rods.

No, I don't want to cut down those readily available...... PITA.
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

I just bought one of these:

It's a an excellent kit once you've added a few extra calibre specific jags and brushes.

You might struggle to track one down in this country. You could probably find someone in the USA to order one from. I got mine in Whittaker's in Kentucky.

Sim,

There are several "kits" out there that cover all the calibres in one box - they come with brass rods, which are sectional, simply then only screw two sections together to make your shorter rod.

There will probably be some on flea bay no doubt at a reduced price too!

D'oh! (slaps forehead smilie!) Of course there is!! Complete brain fart, I'd forgotten about them.....

However, let's continue the thread out of interest sake for foot long, purpose built cleaning rods.

(Yes, yes, Mike fixed the problem and found the solution, but just go with the theme...)

Parker Hale do a three piece brass .22 cleaning rod. One section would give you 9" plus jag, two sections would give you 21" plus jag.

Not quiet to your dimensions but still a tad shorter than the full length rod.

Looking at the Pro Shot line, they have an 8 inch and then up to a 24 inch...... And, they are for the "American brushes", ie the brush is the male and the rod the female fitting.

Trouble with that is I've got wagon loads of Parker Hale brushes and jags. Not only that, the PH stuff is a lot more available in the UK. My local shop stocks Tetra brushes, but supply is sketchy.....

However, I've found on Brownells, Dewey rods. Now these have a male fitting rod, for female brushes. They are available in the claibers and lengths I want!! So, again, does anyone know, would PH brushes fit on a Dewey rod?

Mk1 pistol cleaning rod. The rod length excluding the handle with jag is 16" and .3125" diameter so robust enough to deal with a fair amount of abuse, the handle is knurled brass with an ebony handle on it to give a firm grip and make pulling it back easier and the rod rotates in the handle.

Crap picture as normal...
