For the most it is just mild steel and I would look for standard sized bushings so they could be readily replaced with off the shelf items should they wear. Given the setup time is it nigh on as easy to make a second one at the same time
I think it needs a bigger base to spread the load when fixed to a bench, oh and I have a feeling it is going to be very heavy.....

Yes they are heavy and most people have a steel plate bolted on to the bench for it to take the load, some have brackets made so that it lies back somewhat.
Now what about the dies and core moulds?

I took a copy of the drawings to work and had one of our engineering bods look at them while I made him a brew.
A lot of work involved for the home hobbyist me thinks.
I am trying to persuade him that he needs to build one but he isnt taking the bait at the moment.
I know a machinist and the drawings have been passed on to him. He confirms that he can do the work. Parts of the heavy duty drillings and borings will have to be sub contracted out as he doesn’t have that kind of machinery. He advises me that it would be cost effective if I could get more people interested. A group order would bring down the price substantially. I am awaiting an initial quote from him as I intend to go with this project anyway.
I am certainly on track to build one, probably over the Xmas break assuming life does not get in the way, It seems like a fun project and has to be worth a bash.
I have tracked down a couple of places that do hard chromed shafts for hydraulics that would be ideal for the guides and I am slowly sourcing the other parts. One of the most important parts of the fabrication is to line bore the blocks for the bushings which will be interesting.
