I was really tempted by the Savage in 5.7x28 until I looked into the round itself. I couldn't workout where it fitted into my shooting.
As far as I can see there are no FMJ bullets light enough - so target work is out. It's velocity puts it on a par with the 17 HMR, so why not go for the "17" or download a Hornet, 222 or 223?
When you find brass it's reloadable, unlike the 17HMR. I suppose an advantage would be to neck it down to .17 and you then have a reloadable equivalent to the HMR - but still no target application.
It's a specialised round for a specialised job and because of the law regarding expanding ammunition in the UK, it will be difficult to find a niche here. Pity. :(
“The standard you walk past is the standard you accept.”
But then of course we shall be summarily raped by Edgar Brothers on price, and the $450 will become £900 like normal. Utterly sick of it; they ruin Savage.
They want £3000 for the Palms apparently as a list price now, which is £800 or so more than before, and Garlands were bad! I know people need some kind of margin but that's stupid money.
