Latest project.

#1 Post by Pete »

I've been shoe-horning a Tikka M595 223 into a Walther small-bore stock:

It's still very much a "work in progress" (note the Isopon in the .22 bolt handle slot), but I've got it to the stage where it fits me and it's fireable.
The action isn't bedded yet, but it is bolted to two metal pillars, fore and aft. These have been epoxied into the woodwork.
The cheekpiece will need modifying, there's not enough clearance for bolt insertion/removal presently, so unfortunately, it will need a bit of surgery.

That'll make a nice rifle when it's done.

Now completed......best group to date 0.33MOA (5 shots at 300yds, 80.5 grain Berger FB's + RS52)
Not bad for an old Tikka M595 (and a Bartlein 8 twist.)
The attachment Stock A.jpg is no longer available

Just pull the comb up and out to install the bolt, instead of removing the retaining screw and having bits of plastic falling everywhere.
The stock is very comfortable to hold, which helps...

And if anyone has a bit of wood that resembles the original stock (European walnut, I think) about 30mm thick, 200mm long, and 50mm wide going spare, I'd like to buy it...my mahogany spacer somewhat spoils the whole effect.
