.223 cast bullet data
I've ordered a 100 cast bullets from Roger in .223 for a little experiment!
I've got half a dozen manuals but really what I'm looking for is not there. There are a number of pointers on the net, but generally specific to a single load.
I'm looking for a .223 load, with a relatively fast powder, at around 2000fps from an 18", for a 60gn cast, gas checked bullet.
Have a look in your manuals for me and see what you've got!
My copy of Quickload no longer works on my computer since a huge virus got me.......

In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

WE got very good results using Nobel sport Tecna N a shotgun powder in 308 and 6,5x55.We do not shoot cast in .223.If you can find this powder in UK it will make for good economic cartridge.I am sure you could reach the velocity you are seeking

Re: .223 cast bullet data
Cast boolits usually require faster burning powder than jacketed bullets.
For 25 to 50 yards for example 2gr of Viht 310 works well.
You can drive cast to 3500 fps but I haven't tried it!

Thanks fellas. 2400? Now there's a powder I haven't used in a very long time........
At 10gns a pop and dodgy's bullets, if it works, 700 rounds per tub!
This is really turning into the "poor man's black rifle"!

Dodgy has given me a jump off point and no doubt "Grizzly of Durham" will be along soon.......
Any one using Quickload? Anything on that?

Re: .223 cast bullet data
I use QL. I will fire up a Winders machine and see what it says

Re: .223 cast bullet data
Right Sim, it is fired up and is quite a late version so I have a huge choice of bullets manufacturers, any preferences as to the make of cast boolit?
Re: .223 cast bullet data
I will PM you what I have so far
