Hornady 75gn EDL .223 - Any experience?

#1 Post by 1066 »

Is anyone using the Hornady 75gn ELD Match bullets? (.224)?

I have recently been using the Hornady 73gn ELD Match bullets with good results in my old CZ 527 with a 1:9 barrel, however, these seem to be scarce at the moment but there seems to be stocks of the 75gn ELD match bullets about.

My normal fodder for this rifle has been the Sierra 69gn Matchkings and I was a bit concerned whether the Hornady 73gns would stabilise - but they seem to do so in this rifle ok.

Now I'm thinking - is the 75gn ELD any real difference than the 73gn ELD? Will the 75gn ELD's stabilise? Is the 75gn any longer than the 73gn?

This was yesterday with the 73gn EDL's at a wet and windy 600 yards: (Don't know what happened to shot no. 7 :) )

Looks like the Intarso's were in a good mood yesterday, then......was that F-class scoring or TR?

I've tried Hornady 75grain BTHP Match (not ELD), and 80grain Sierra MK's with very good results in a 30" 8 twist barrel, but the bullet that really shines is the 73 grain Berger BTHP.
I've had a 5 shot one hole group at 200yds (0.2 MOA) with these. Powder is either Wild Boar (preferred), or RS52.

Thank you Pete. That was a TR target and the Intarso's were working very well with no missed shots, although it was a pretty crappy day weatherwise.

I've managed to find some more 73gn Hornadys so I'll stick with these as I use up the very last of my stash of Varget.

I had real issues with concentricity with the 75gr ELDM’s which messed with accuracy but using the standard 75gr Hornady BTHP I had much better results all round and will happily deliver one hole groups at 100yards and has no issue v-bulling out to 1k
