Re: Lathe question
Use through the headstock for chambering/threading barrels.
Re: Lathe question
Yes I would normally use through the head stock. I am considering a new lathe the options are 24" between centres or 29" between centres I am wondering if 29" would give any advantage.

Re: Lathe question
Always go with the biggest you can fit in. There will always be something that needs a bit more

Re: Lathe question
Go 29 just in case you have a bigger project at a later date

Re: Lathe question
Don't worry about the centre distance. Go for the biggest shaft bore diameter that you can find.

Re: Lathe question
I agree with Fred, spindle bore diameter is always my first consideration. Oddly having sold everything I am thinking of another lathe and it has a 63mm bore and 750 centres, I reckon it will do everything I ever need.
Re: Lathe question
That sounds like a bit of a beast. A 30mm tube is probably the largest I will ever work with.
