Right, after tea we walked the dogs and then about 7:30 we headed off on the short journey to the fields that we were to shoot on. As we walked up the hedgerow the fields on our left were full of beans, these were about 5.5 foot tall and so seeing anything in here would be a miracle and the wheat looked like our best option as this was naturally much shorter.
We stopped at a good vantage point along the hedgerow and the woodland was about 80 yards infront of us, the wind was in our favour and so we started calling. Nothing showed at first but then behind us in the beans we could hear something big moving about, but like I said not a chance of seeing anything. Time passed by (as it does) and so we decided to go for a stalk along the wood side, this is only a small bit of land and so in no time at all we were almost at the boundary, all of a sudden a Doe jumped up from the wheat and ran to the safety of the woods, another 50 yards later and we came to a stop as we were as far as we could go. I tried another few called on the Buttaloo and said to Steve that this was the last gasp chance, and that we should maybe now go foxing on the Rape stubbles up the road, just then some crashing through the trees and the caller had worked. A young Buck burst through the tree line and into the wheat field, he stood not 20 yards away from us, looking at us and then as Steve put the rifle on the sticks he started walking straight at us. He was now about 14 / 15 yards away and as Steve pulled the trigger,,,,,, nothing,, guess who had left the safety on! The Buck ran like a steam train, from left to right, I thought that we had lost it, I barked at him and he slammed the breaks on, Steve didn't hesitate and sent his 30 06 round slamming into his neck. Needless to say he went straight down and Madmanx had just got his 3rd deer in 4 trips out with me. Well done mate.
Here he is with the damage to him clearly showing.

Here is a happy hunter.

Well, job done, so we did what we had to do and took him back to the truck. Then we went foxing but thats on another thread. Thanks for a great night Steve, looking forward to seeing you soon mate.
