Hi ovenpaa i did not say i shot rabbits out to 1000 yards,i said i could because of the nature of the ground.Im not capable the gun is.I would say most centrefire rifles are capable of 1000 yard shot,the question is would the shooter be capable i doubt it.
Good point. A rabbit is a very small target at 1000 yards in a valley with squirely winds but doable. We shoot clays and coke cans at 650m with .308's which is sporting however it is on a sandy backdrop so very easy to adjust the second shot to get on target in the even that you miss.
I do know of one shooter who will take down rabbits at 1000 yards with 5,56x45. I sat and listened to him and Christel discussing the ethics of taking a second shot if the first one missed which amused me as they were arguing for different reasons and never sussed each other out.
